History

The Hartsville Museum features exhibits on local history as well as art exhibits. The building was originally a post office built during the 1930s. In 2000, an outdoor sculpture courtyard was added to the collection. Admission to the museum is free. Situated across the street from the museum, The Edition is available for events, parties, and meetings.

Recreation and Exercise

Edventure Hartsville, a satellite location of South Carolina's Edventure Children's Museum, is located in downtown Hartsville.

Hartsville is home to six parks, including the Byerly Park Recreation Complex. Byerly Park sits on 93 acres and includes an indoor sports center featuring elliptical machines, treadmills, strength equipment, exercise classes, an indoor track, and an indoor basketball court. Outdoors, visitors to the park will find baseball, football, and soccer fields. There are also tennis courts, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, a picnic area, and a 1.2-mile walking and jogging trail. Along with the playgrounds, very young children can enjoy the Born Learning Trail, a play trail that teaches early literacy skills.

Along with the city-run parks, Hartsville is home to a branch of the YMCA of Upper Pee Dee. The YMCA features a teen center, indoor pool, indoor track, and fitness equipment. The Y also offers fitness classes.

Boaters can rent kayaks at Lawton Park by Lake Prestwood.
