Cumberland is a small city located in Providence County with a population of 33,506 (2010 Census). It is 15 miles north of downtown Providence by the RI-146 N highway, which takes about a half-hour to drive, depending on the traffic.

William Blackstone was the first European to settle in the area around 1635. The Plymouth Colony bought the land, now the Cumberland area, from the native people. Blackstone cultivated the first American variety of apples called the Yellow Sweeting, which is still enjoyed today and is used to make delicious pies by the locals.
