About Eureka, MO
Eureka straddles two counties, St. Louis County and Jefferson County. It is a suburban city that is a part of the Greater St. Louis area on the southwestern side of the sprawling city of St. Louis. The population count taken during the 2020 U.S. Census was 11,646.
Historically, the plat map for the village of Eureka was designed in 1858, following the route of the Pacific Railroad. The village was built on the land of the Native American Shawnee people. By 1890, there were over one hundred homes of the settlers.
In 1898, children from the poorer neighborhoods in St. Louis were brought to experience life in a rural setting at a youth camp called St. Louis Children’s Industrial Farm. It is now called Camp Wyman and is one of the oldest youth camps in America.
In contemporary times, Main Street looks much like it did 50 years ago with cars that are newer. The city is best known for the Six Flags (St. Louis) amusement park, which is a popular attraction bringing many tourists to the area.
