Wilmington is a charming city on the west bank of the large Delaware River. The smaller Christina River runs through the downtown area. The Delaware Bridge (I-295) crosses over the Delaware River for those traveling to and from New Jersey, located to the east of Delaware. What To Do in Wilmington, DE

Wilmington's downtown has the DuPont Building that was built in the early part of the 20th century. The legacy of the DuPont family is on display in the Hagley Museum. The museum is found on the grounds of a stunningly beautiful 235-acre parcel along the Brandywine Creek.

There is a DuPont family home with a lovely garden that the family established in the United States in 1802. The home is found along with the black powder yards and a 19th-century machine shop. Visitors can view the only still operating black powder (gun powder) mill in America and see the place with the remnants of the largest accidental explosion in these yards' history.

Other museums, which are nice to visit, are the Delaware Art Museum, The Delaware Contemporary art museum, and the Delaware Children's Museum. Families with kids enjoy shows at the Delaware Children�s Theater. For adults, performances at The Grand Opera House are spectacular, along with a visit to see its historic art gallery.

Wilmington's other attractions include the Brandywine Zoo, Ed Oliver Golf Club, Russell Peterson Wildlife Refuge, Rockford Park, and Union Park Gardens.

Just north of Wilmington city limits, you will find the Winterthur Museum, garden, library, and Wilmington Country Club next to the Brandywine Creek State Park. There is the DuPont Country Club next to the Alapocas Run State Park. Also, there are Rockwood Park and Bellevue State Park to enjoy.
