In more modern times, Port Arthur is known for the Motiva Refinery, which is the largest oil refinery in America. The town has been damaged frequently by hurricanes and floods due to storm surges. The movement towards sustainable energy and away from fossil fuels is a challenge. Nevertheless, it is still a vital part of America’s oil refining infrastructure, with billions invested in upgrades over the past decades.

What to do in Port Arthur, TX

Port Arthur offers some Cajun fun and great fishing.

  • Features: Fishing is a popular pastime in this area. You can fish from the beach at the Sea Rim State or from Pleasure Island in Sabine Lake. Another option is deep-sea fishing by chartering a boat for a trip out into the Gulf of Mexico.
