Irmo is a quiet town in South Carolina's Richland County, just 12 miles northwest of the state capital of Columbia. Generally considered a suburb of Columbia, Irmo is also a distinct town in its own right. Irmo was chartered as a town in 1890, at which time it was an important hub along the Columbia, Newberry and Laurens Railroad.

There's much to see and do in Irmo, SC. Located a stone's throw from Columbia and Lake Murray, Irmo offers a great balance of outdoor adventure and big-city culture. Some of the most popular attractions and activities in Irmo include:

  • Lake Murray - Irmo is located just minutes from Lake Murray, a 50,000-acre reservoir that offers endless opportunities for boating and water sports. Lake Murray is also one of the best bass fishing lakes in South Carolina and often hosts fishing tournaments. Several lakeside parks offer fishing, boating, and swimming access, including Lake Murray Public Park.
  • Outdoor Adventures - Parks and trails throughout the Irmo area offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.   • Festivals and Events - Every year, the Irmo Okra Strut takes place toward the end of September. It's one of South Carolina's most beloved free festivals, bringing all kinds of festivities over the course of two days, including food, drink, live music, carnival games, and a parade. Another local favorite is the Irmo International Festival, which usually takes place in late April.
