About Annandale, MN
Annandale is in Wright County, found in the southeastern part of Minnesota. It is about a one-hour drive from Minneapolis. The population is 3,420 (2020 U.S. Census). In 2010, the population was 3,228. This small increase means not quite 200 people moved to this small town over the last decade. Pretty much everybody knows everybody in this charming small town.
Historically, the town started in 1887 with a post office and was incorporated in 1888. It was named after a city in Scotland called Annan.
The Thayer Hotel, which opened in 1895, is still standing. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From 1995 to 2011, it was open and operated as a bed and breakfast. It stayed closed from 2011 to 2016, when the owners retired. It reopened again in 2018 as a hotel and restaurant before the pandemic.
This town is best known for its nickname “ The Heart of the Lakes” because it is surrounded by 26 lakes within a radius of ten miles.
