About Orange Park, FL
Orange Park is a suburb of Jacksonville. This area is part of Clay County. It is a growing town with 9,089 people (2020 census). This population increased by 8% from 8,412 people counted by the census in 2010.
Orange Park started in 1877 as a planned small-farm community. It was a real estate development project by the Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company built around the concept of small family farms growing citrus.
All these plans for farming citrus groves were destroyed by the Great Freeze in 1895, which killed all the citrus trees. The damage was so widespread that the fruit-growing industry in the area was eliminated and never recovered to pre-freeze levels.
In contemporary times, the city is best known as a desirable suburban area with large houses and a nice place for growing families and is attractive to wealthy retirees.
